What Can I Expect in a First Session?
I know sometimes it can be hard to take that first step to come in for counseling! Most people find that once they do come into therapy it isn’t as scary as they once thought, and being able to talk with someone who is an intelligent listener and trained at assisting you is invaluable.
Before your first appointment I will encourage you to fill out my intake and disclosure forms (located on this website, simply click the "forms" button). That way you don’t have to spend time filling them out during our first session.
In the first session we will spend some time talking about what has brought you into therapy (sometimes you may not even be sure and that’s okay too) and what your hopes and goals are for our sessions. We will decide together if my therapeutic style and experience are a good match for you and then proceed from there.
How Long Are the Sessions?
My individual sessions are 50 minutes in length and I typically meet with individuals on a weekly or bi-monthly basis. Of course, every individual is different and may require additional sessions or time, and we can discuss this at our first session.
